A quilt friend gave me a pattern to help use up my scrap fabric stash and it is called the "Sour Dough Quilt"...have you heard about this pattern? There are several references about it on line and many good pictures of great quilts.
You need to sort fabric into lights and darks and there are 1 1/2" strips cut into 1 1/2" squares and 2 1/2" rectangles. Next you add 4 1/2" squares to this. An accent color is used for the 1 1/2" squares that go down the middle of each 8 1/2" block.
So, I am cutting and sorting and trying to decide what color I will need for the accent color and if I want to select certain fabric or fabrics for the 4 1/2" blocks. I think I would like to use a special fabric for those...but not sure. Most of my scraps tend to be bright colors with alot of yellow, my favorite color!!
I would love to see others Sour Dough Quilts so I can get ideas on how I want to complete this one. I am using up small scrap strips that I have saved and the cutting is not taking too long...
I would think this will be really pretty made up in scraps! I have never heard of a Sour Dough Quilt. I'm anxious to see yours when you finish!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of it either, but I'll go hunting on flickr or somewhere to see some.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of it either, but just now looking, found several different kinds. I think your colors will make a happy quilt!

Sour Dough is an odd name for a design! I haven't heard of it. If I find something similar I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of a Sour Dough quilt. Only Bread, which I have made!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. Your verse at the top of your blog is my favorite Bible Verse.
Can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteWell, it sounds like you need to share a bit more on your cute sourdough quilt idea, I want to see, too!
ReplyDeleteI love Sourdough Quilts! The first one I made was given to my daughter at her wedding shower - she loved fabrics she recognized from her childhood. Since then, I have made 2 more queen sized, and 2 throw quilts in this pattern. The black diamond pattern is distinctive and I like to use a 2 inch border of a very dark fabric (or solid black) before adding the outer border.
ReplyDeleteJeremiah 29:11 is a wonderfully encouraging verse, too - thanks for the reminder that He is in control. ;)
