Sour Dough progress and new fabric purchased...

I am still cutting my scrap fabric and trying to divide them into darks and lights. This is difficult for me as many of my fabrics are bright colors...here is a sample square that I am playing with.
The squares are 1 1/2" & 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" & 4 1/"

You can see I am using the accent color of black with pink dots.
This is Love Me Love ME Not by Ro Gregg for Northcott #2390.
The top right square is the same but #2382.
The bottom left square is Gerber  by Donna Dewberry for Free Spirit #DD21.
Not too sure the idea of dark & light fabric is showing up, but I like it anyway!!
I am thinking of using this sample and complete the quilt with some pink borders...

Here are a few of my newest fabrics...

Yellow windowpane and cherries...Oh-Cherry-Oh, Me & My Sister Design by Moda

Here is a vintage tablecloth that I bought at a yard sale for $3. It has a few small holes but I can applique over those...

I will make a quilt with this as the top and probably add a border or two...perhaps using the Oh-Cherry-Oh fabric in the border or binding...
I was thrilled to find this fabric as I have had the tablecloth for about a year.

I will keep you posted!!

Yellow & Blue Log Cabin Squares

The Neuse Quilters Guild has been having a block challenge. I won these yellow and blue log cabin blocks!!!
My husband and I are UNC- Tarheels fans and so I used some UNC fabric on two of my blocks...thinking that I would give the winner the choice to use them OR remake the blocks in case they were a NCSU fan!!  Just as a little joke of course!!
Here are the 27 blocks that I won!!

Now, to select a pattern...  here are a few layouts to help me decide...
What do you think...which one should I use OR is there another pattern????????

Here you can see my little joke with the UNC fabric!!

And what about a small blue border with a totally different
fabric and a yellow border with some applique or embroidery???

Apples,apples,apples

I seems that our apple tree is beginning to provide us with some good fruits!! Actually, my husband took a tour of our yard and picked some..a bit early. So, why not make some yummie apple rings for supper?

You know, I really have begun to sound like my mama. aunts, and grandmama's when I say that I do not have a recipe but that I just add some flour, sugar, egg, milk, and cinnamon.

I am off to water aerobics and then back for dinner...
I have been sewing some and will post some pictures late...

I won our guild's yellow & blue challenge blocks and have NOT pieced them yet...still hand quilting my "Charming" wall hanging and completed two quilt repairs today...

Sour Dough Quilt...

A quilt friend gave me a pattern to help use up my scrap fabric stash and it is called the "Sour Dough Quilt"...have you heard about this pattern? There are several references about it on line and many good pictures of great quilts.
You need to sort fabric into lights and darks and there are  1 1/2" strips cut into 1 1/2" squares and 2 1/2" rectangles. Next you add 4 1/2" squares to this. An accent color is used for the 1 1/2" squares that go down the middle of each 8 1/2" block.

So, I am cutting and sorting and trying to decide what color I will need for the accent color and if I want to select certain fabric or fabrics for the 4 1/2" blocks. I think I would like to use a special fabric for those...but not sure. Most of my scraps tend to be bright colors with alot of yellow, my favorite color!!

I would love to see others Sour Dough Quilts so I can get ideas on how I want to complete this one. I am using up small scrap strips that I have saved and the cutting is not taking too long...

Yard beauties...

Well we need rain here in eastern North Carolina and I have not watered as I should because the water bill is too high...But many of my plants in our yard and garden are coming along...

Dessert...strawberries

Had left over strawberries in the frig and I needed to use them up...well, I have made lots of fritters-corn, shrimp, apple BUT strawberry????

Yep, strawberry...

Even used my mama's flour sifter to put the powdered sugar on them. They were so good that Cliff & I ate all but three before dinner!!
I just kinda made the recipe up as I went along, but I will tell you what I did...

Strawberry Fritters

1 c SR flour
1/4 c sugar
1 egg
1/4 c buttermilk
8-9 strawberries , sliced
1/4 c oil

I really did not measure anything...but you want a medium thick batter...fry on both sides til brown and dust with powdered sugar.
Eat up!!
