FInally...back to some hand quilting

I am finishing up my two year term as president of our Neuse Quilters Guild and my personal quilting has suffered to say the least...
So this summer, at our guild meetings, I am preparing to do some hand quilting.

You may remember my post  on my sunflower quilt from May 10, 2011
where I showed you my inspiration and progress on it.

Well, here it is all pinned and machine grid quilted and I am preparing to hand quilt around each sunflower
and the sashing and borders.

Which color thread to use...white, cream, or green?????

Packed all up in my hippie bag
and ready for Wednesday's meeting...I will show you my work
along the way...

Give away time

take a look at Trish's lovely blog!!

Butterflies...something old...something new...

Out the steps...

a package with my name.... ? ? ?

Oh, I forgot. My package from Debbie J.

My new clothes pin bag !!

Gosh I love it !!!

We have been cleaning out my daddy's house and garden house
trying to get him ready to move.
In the garden house was my mama's clothes pin basket so of course, I took it home with me...

I remembered that Debbie sold these pretty clothes pin bags on her
Etsy site
and I just had to have one.
She made me a pretty pink one with butterflies and mailed it right to me.

Mama loved pink and was quite a nature/garden lover
so the pink butterfly fabric is perfect.

Now here is the empty basket...what to do..

hmmmmmmm

maybe just keep it.

You know, some of my favorite times were spent in the back yard while mama hung clothes on the line and I stood there , in my bare feet, just talking while she listened and hung clothes and took them down...

Probably THE most important thing we give to children
is our time....

Blessings,
Kathy

NQG 1st Quilt Documentation...

The Neuse Quilters Guild held it's first Quilt Documentation Project this week and we had a lot of fun!!

Our county, Lenoir, was not included in the book that our state published back in 1986 and we wanted to be ready in case another book is published.

North Carolina Quilts

We had a two day event and invited residents of Lenoir County to bring three quilts for our historian, Lynn Gorges of New Bern, NC, to give us information about fabric and the dates they were completed.

Our lovely guild banner invited our guests into the room.

We then photographed the quilts, measured them and identified the pattern.
It was two full days of work...but fun work.

Here are some of the lovely examples that were brought in.

This last quit is a signature quilt made by the owners mother. She embroidered  all the names of her son's church class on it along with the name of the church and the date...it was very special and he was very proud of it!!

We had a fantastic two days with approximately 50 guest and 83 quilts.

Isn't it fun to share our love of quilting?
Blessings,
Kathy

Ruth...

You know I have always really liked reading the book of Ruth. It is short and to the point. I wonder what I would have done if I had been in her shoes.  I have to work on pride and self sufficiency and Ruth seems so mild mannered and trusting.
My margin notes read as follows...

should they have left 1:6
Ruth must have recognized God in Naomi 1:15
did she (Naomi) look different? worse, older...out of God's protection 1:20 (bitter)
Boaz says to Ruth...listen, stay, watch, follow, drink 2:8
"Kathy"  beside "My daughter" 2:8
remind the Lord who I am, ask Him to spread the corner of His garment over me, since He is my kinsman- redeemer 3:9
marked through Ruth and wrote "Kathy" in 3:9
wrote Jesus beside kinsman-redeemer 3:12
circled Rachel and Leah 4:11
circled Tamar 4:12
Ruth is only part of the bigger plan 4:12
circled "seven" sons 4:15

selflessness = rest

What is one of your favorite books in the Bible?
What notes did you take?
How does it inspire you to change?

Blessings as you read your Bible, my friends!!

Our First Turnip...!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so excited... while looking at our garden this afternoon,  after the much needed rain last night, I noticed something...purple ?????

Yes, it is our very first turnip!!!!

I brought it right in to show to Cliff
just like an excited child!!!

We saw the movie, War Horse ,  and they planted a huge field of turnips in  very rocky land.  If you saw it, you know what an act of love it was to  plow up the field and then hope the crop would grow.

I came home and decided to plant turnips too.

We do not really like turnip greens, which is a true Southern
dish, but roasted turnips with other root vegetables has become one
of our favorites.

Well, this is just one and the others are not ready yet, so I think I will slice this one up and serve on a salad (lettuce also from our little garden)
 tomorrow night
with spaghetti....yum!!!

"Bon Appetit"  all,
Kathy

Good info to share with my readers...

I have been finishing up some quilted projects with selling them in mind...
Even though I have a business, Needles and Pins, where I restore/repair antique quilts, I felt led to do a bit more with the business and decided to sell some of my quilted items.

one of my mini's with my little wind up toy that Pa gave me
many years ago..
.

I researched Etsy and found it to be easy and affordable. Several of my "crafty" friends have sold on Etsy and also encouraged me to sell.  So I took the plunge and began selling yesterday!!

Now, to list it on my blog...hummm...tried several ways and it did NOT work...
I thought, Google it, and see what comes up.
I found a wonderful tutorial and wanted to share it with you
to also encourage you to sell some of your wonderful items.

Here is Timothy Adams Designs helpful tutorial
which includes a video. I actually watched it all the way through once and then minimized it while still playing and did what he said while just listening to him tell me just what to do.

EASY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, take a look at my Etsy Mini that I added and see what I have been working on.
I use my theme of adding something old (vintage) with something new.
I hope to add to it as I complete other items.
But for now, I am pleased.

Enjoy, my readers
Kathy

Lamentations 3:22-24
for HIS compassions never fail.
they are new every morning:
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for Him."
