"Ma Dugette's" Quilt

Another one of MaDugette's quilts.  It is called Eight Hands Round and was made in the early 1920's perhaps in Sampson County where her husband's family , the Johnson's , were from.

I gave it to my cousin, Hazel, my mother's namesake because she did not have one of her quilts. There is a label on the back about my grandmother.

1930's Scrappy Quilt by Estelle Wetherington Johnson- My Maternal Grandmother

My maternal grandmother, Dugette Estelle Wetherington Johnson, made this scrappy quilt top when her four girls were young.  My mother, Hazel Meliss Johnson Davis, remembered several of the print fabrics as being dresses that she wore or her sisters wore.  We lovingly called her "Madugette".

I replaced several worn pieces and replaced them with 1930' feed sack fabrics.

The top was never quilted.  She lived in Craven County, NC...the Wintergreen area and later in Cove City.

Restoration on Double Wedding Ring quilt

I replaced an area of this 1930's double wedding ring quilt that she purchased an an auction.
I used scraps from another damaged ring quilt and appliqued it into place.

I hand quilted the areas worked on.

She now has it on her guest bed and it looks great!!

Having Fun in the Sun......

Beach flip flop quilt made with mostly Wal-Mart fabrics and it is ,YES, used at the beach in the sand!!!! I made it to use it. We actually put our towels on top but we shake out the sand and put it back in the car after laying out on the sand. We mostly go to the pier, one of three left, at Emerald Isle Pier  and swim and get sun...

I can not believe I actually posted these pictures of me on the beach!!! I must be getting OLD...
